The key concepts I took to heart in the MSN outcome #1 are a holistic approach to care and patient-centered care. My interaction with various case studies revealed that focusing on physical health outcomes alone may not be sufficient in improving individual or community health outcomes. When the approach is patient-centered, the nurse can consider each patient as a unique case with distinct needs that should be met. However, patient-centeredness is encompassed within the framework of holistic approaches that go beyond the physical needs of a patient (Mills, 2017). The approach places nurses in positions better to understand patients, both as individuals and as part of a community with noble needs.
