Challenges in the field of public health are inevitable, particularly due to the rapid advancement of technology. Hospitals and other health organizations are searching for ways to ensure that they have the data they need to facilitate high-quality healthcare services. As such, they are implementing electronic health recording systems to keep and retrieve patients' data when the need arises. The three primary challenges in public health include privacy concerns, the increase of the aging population, and workforce shortage and insufficient funding to review teaching methods and curriculum to ensure that health professionals under training acquire relevant skills and knowledge.
Technologies have contributed to the radical changes in how things are done in public health centers. A few decades ago, patients' data were kept in physical files. Although this way of recording information served the purpose, it was hectic to retrieve the needed files for specific sick individuals. Currently, many hospitals have implemented electronic health systems for storing patients' data. Despite this move promoting medical services and patient care, the primary threat associated with it is the security of the data stored in virtual databases. If such information is breached by cyber-attackers and published on the Internet, the privacy of patients' data becomes compromised (Ricciardi & Boccia, 2017). For this reason, some sick individuals might conceal critical information since they fear that whatever they share with health professionals is no longer safe.
The other primary challenge facing public health is the workforce shortage and obsolete teaching methods. The majority of people in the current generation wants to be independent and do not like being employed. Millennials and Generation Z want to do whatever and whenever they want without being bossed around. As such, many of these individuals prefer working online at the comfort of their homes since they value work-life balance.
