Physicians and nurses are an essential part of the healthcare profession. They play different roles which ultimately improve patient health outcomes. According to Phillips et al. (2021), on the one hand, a physician’s primary role involves diagnosing the patient and deciding on treatment. On the other hand, a nurse's primary role involves monitoring patients and providing them with ongoing patient care. Depending on the level of education and training, some nurses, such as advanced practice nurses, perform similar roles to physicians, in addition to providing ongoing care. However, nurses experience disruptive behavior, especially from physicians, which hinders their ability to perform their roles. The nurse-physician relationship is complex and is often characterized by disrespect and intimidation from the physicians (Siedlecki & Hixson, 2015).
