Prioritizing Department Functions

Essay Instructions:

Recognize that the realities of workflow and the limitations of resources may require that some functions be done before others (keep team work in mind). It may be undesirable to put off one function; but, if another function is necessary for the continued flow of work, something may have to be postponed or performed out of order, even briefly.
Why is it necessary to prioritize department functions? Is not everything important? Create a list that breaks down the most common department functions and then determine what priority level you would prioritize them within the Health Informatics Information Management (HIIM) department. Discuss the multiple roles within the HIIM department, as applicable. In thinking about prioritization, it is also important to think about how different roles work together. Provide examples of how these teams may work together? Use biblical verses that support working with different roles and professionals in HIIM together.

Discussion Thread: Prioritizing Department Functions
Healthcare provision occurs in complex settings that incorporate diverse, interconnected operations. Mantas et al. (2020) indicate that institutions devise strategic approaches to ensure that the different sections work together as a unit leading to improved care for all patients. Health Informatics Information Management is critical in streamlining activities within a healthcare facility and ensuring that services flow as desired with minimal interruptions.
One of the primary benefits of integrating robust systems in a healthcare facility is that they assist the administrators and other stakeholders in prioritizing departmental functions. According to Mantas et al. (2020), prioritization is fundamental because it facilitates the organization and determines which services should take precedence to ensure the hospitals achieve their goals. The authors note that healthcare facilities implement this objective by grouping their departments using rationales such as shared duties and tasks for improving efficiency. Such an approach leads to categorizations such as informatics services, administration, diagnostic, therapeutic, and support niches (Mantas et al., 2020). In this way, the leadership can identify the urgent departmental functions that require immediate resource allocations based on their level of urgency and importance. For instance, the diagnostic and therapeutic departments comprise critical services that must take the lead for a hospital to provide distinguished services that lead to desirable health outcomes. Such a recognition reveals that although all activities in diverse departments in a health facility and critical, some are more urgent than others, demanding prioritization.
Health informatics information management (HIIM) plays a central role in determining the ease with which a patient transitions from one department in a healthcare facility to another. For instance, some of its common functions may include recording patients in the database, coding patient-related data, analyzing, keeping, and updating records, dis...
