The five Spinal Nerve Plexuses
The nerve plexus refers to a system of connecting nerves that function in the same region of the body. The nerve plexuses found in our body are named after the region they are found and the organs they function in. Some of the nerve plexuses include coccygeal, lumbar, sacral, branchial, and cervical (LibreTexts Libraries, 2020). However, it essential to note Auerbach's plexus nerve function in the gastrointestinal tract, and it was named after the first scholar who discovered it called Leopold Auerbach.
The cervical plexus is found deep in the neck and is made by higher rami of ventral cervical nerves. They supply nerve impulses in the neck, head, and shoulder regions of the body. The branchial plexus is made in the ventral rami of C5 to C8. They are structured extending towards the axilla. They transmit nervous impulsions in the chest, arms and hands, and shoulders. The lumbar plexus is activated by ventral of L1 to L5 spinal nerves assisted by T12 nerves. Structurally, they are found within the major muscle called psoas (LibreTexts Libraries, 2020). They transmit nerve signals in the abdomen, thighs, knees, and back. The coccygeal plexus is interjoined in the lower region of sacral plexus and functions in the body's coccyx part.
