Review the Topic Materials and the work completed in NRS-433V to formulate a PICOT statement for your capstone project.
A PICOT starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention should be an independent, specified nursing change intervention. The intervention cannot require a provider prescription. Include a comparison to a patient population not currently receiving the intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process.
Formulate a PICOT statement using the PICOT format provided in the assigned readings. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your capstone project.
In a paper of 500-750 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.

PICOT Format
P) – Population refers to the sample of subjects you wish to recruit for your study. There may be a fine balance between defining a sample that is most likely to respond to your intervention (e.g. no co-morbidity) and one that can be generalized to patients that are likely to be seen in actual practice.
(I) – Intervention refers to the treatment that will be provided to subjects enrolled in your study.
(C) – Comparison identifies what you plan on using as a reference group to compare with your treatment intervention. Many study designs refer to this as the control group. If an existing treatment is considered the ‘gold standard’, then this should be the comparison group.
(O) – Outcome represents what result you plan on measuring to examine the effectiveness of your intervention. Familiar and validated outcome measurement tools relevant to common chiropractic patient populations may include the Neck Disability Index or Roland-Morris Questionnaire. There are, typically, a multitude of outcome tools available for different clinical populations, each having strengths and weaknesses.
(T) – Time describes the duration for your data collection.

Childhood obesity has turned out to be an issue of concern for parents and clinicians in the United States and at the global level. According to Brown et al. (2015), the prevalence of obesity among school-going children stands at seventeen percent in the United States alone. This figure has been rising and is estimated to escalate as children progress towards adulthood. The problem with obesity is that it progresses into adulthood, creating a need for combating it at the childhood stage. While there are different mechanisms of addressing obesity in school-going children, the best intervention programs should not only help the target population currently, but in future as well. This PICOT statement intends to explore how schools can be utilized to address obesity in school-going children. Children above the age of five years spend a significant amount of time in schools. Additionally, school-going children are social and in learning stages. If obesity programs are introduced in schools, there are high chances that learners will share knowledge with their parents and friends outside the school environment.
Population
Obesity is a serious health issue of concern that affects school children and poses the risk of progressing into adulthood. The research study conducted by Okey and Hammersley (2017) found that children in the age above five years and teenagers represent thirty percent and seventeen percent when it comes to obesity prevalence in the United States. This is an age bracket consisting of school-going children who are supposed to stay physically fit. Another independent study by Amini et al. (2015) had found that school-going children are in the learning stage and this is an opportune moment for intervention on teaching them about healthy foods and habits.
Intervention
Evidence-based interventions should target an environment where the affected population spends enough time. Schools present an opportune environment for intervention because learners are in a group environment. Additionally, school programs can be adjusted to take into consideration the health needs of learners.
