Introduction
Physiological integrity is a broad term used in nursing which refers to the sufficient provision of care towards the daily activities of a patient, may it be in aspects such as basic care, risk reduction, or physiological adaptations. Based on the Individual Student ATI Assessment Trends, the concept of greatest opportunity is pharmacological and parenteral therapies which are included under one of the NCLEX-RN examination blueprint’s main categories, preservation of patient population’s physiological integrity. The purpose of this paper is to explore the concept of pharmacological and parenteral therapies in detail, with consideration to its relationship with evidence-based nursing practice.
Importance
Pharmacological and parenteral therapies mainly involve medications that are administered to the patient for their treatment. It is important to be knowledgeable in this topic because there are precautions, contraindications, drug interactions, and adverse effects that should be taken note of to ensure that administrating the medication will not do any harm to the patient. In line with these, the medical professional’s proper handling and accurate administration of the medications are also part of the priority concept to ensure the maximum possible treatment outcome while eliminating or at least reducing the risks.
Healthcare Disparities, Inequalities, and Interventions
Since medications are involved as the first-line treatment of a lot of conditions, there is already wide scope of populations who are affected by issues concerning pharmacological and parenteral therapies. Based on studies, even trained medical professionals in the critical care units commit errors when it comes to the pharmacological and parenteral treatment given to patients (Gracia et al, 2019). Given the presence of errors on a patient under critical care, the issue is also evident in other areas that are included in the scope of nursing when left unresolved which may lead to complications or even deaths in the future. The healthcare resources such as the finances, medical equipment, and facilities are all important but in this specific topic, the focus is more on human resources, technology, and knowledge because, with these resources, the assessment and execution of pharmacological and parenteral treatments can be elevated (Aslan & Dikmen, 2020).
Healthcare disparities are evident in society, and they can specifically be related to medications in terms of the quality of service and accessibility of these to a certain population. Unfortunately, there are racial and socioeconomic factors that are involved which creates an imbalance in the level of quality and safety that the patients are able to receive (Piccardi et al, 2018).
