One maximum repetition test (1-RM) is used to assess the maximum weight an individual can lift with one repetition while applying the correct technique. This test is considered the gold standard for measuring subjects' muscle strength outside the settings of a laboratory. 
Who should perform the test?
Athletes perform the 1-RM test to measure their strength capacities. They may perform the test before and after a recommended training program to assess its effectiveness (Grgic et al., 2020). The test is also a reliable measure of strength in children from six years, adolescents, healthy adults and middle-aged individuals (trained and untrained), post-menopausal women, individuals above seventy-five, and patients with cardiovascular disease.
