Person-centered care is a healthcare strategy that prioritizes the needs, values, and preferences of the individual patient. It involves actively listening to and engaging with patients to understand their unique perspectives and experiences, and using that knowledge to inform the provision of care that is tailored to their specific needs (Eklund et al., 2019). Three essential elements that are central to the delivery of person-centered care are holistic nursing, cultural humility, and self-reflection.
One approach that will support the delivery of patient-centered care to patients is holistic nursing. Holistic nursing is the practice of providing care that is complete, patient-centered, and attends to the patient's physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects (Eklund et al., 2019).
