Medical errors are very prevalent especially in the pediatric care. There are several factors contributing to medical errors in the pediatric unit. These errors results to increased rates of mortality among children and increased medical costs.
2 State the purpose of the research study- 4 Points
The purpose of the study was to determine the factors within the nursing work environment that contributed to the occurrence of pediatric medical administration errors.
3 Examine the review of the literature – 8 Points
There is no specific section for the literature review. However, in the problem statement the authors have identified several researches that have focused on the medical errors in the pediatric section.

None of them is identified specifically. However, from the section Pediatric Medication Administration it can be hypothesized that medical errors in the pediatric unit are contributed by the overworking of nurses in the pediatric units.

2 Dependent variable/s: The medical errors depend on the contributing factors for them to occur; hence they are the dependent variables.

3 Quantitative/Qualitative: A quantitative approach was utilized to collect data from the participants in the survey. Various types of data were collected.
4 Specific Type of Design: A survey was utilized by collecting data, a self-reported data was collected from the participating nurses and others were retrieved from the hospital care units.

The study took place in three tertiary university-affiliated pediatric health care centers in east, west and central Canada, over a 3-month period of data collection in a 6-month time frame. This study was an independent sub-study from a larger pan-Canadian study.

5 Sampling criteria: The convenient sample consisted of 18 previously randomly selected units from the larger study.
6 Sample size: There were 18 units that were utilized for the study. Each of the 18 units had 30 participants.
