Christian worldview play a significant role in determining medical intervention and sickness. Christians believe that healing comes from God. Besides, they believe that sickness is a normal process in life. The paper addresses a case study on Christian worldview on sickness and healing.
Physician and Mike
The physician should not allow Mike to make irrational decisions regardless of his faith. Based on the Christian view, God is responsible for the healing process; however, there is a need for medical intervention. For instance, James is suffering from a kidney problem, an issue that requires immediate dialysis. Making irrational decisions and taking James to Church without any medical intervention is critical and would put his life at risk. The major belief that would be necessary to the client's condition is conducting the dialysis, after which he is taken to Church. The action would consider the patient's autonomy and the standards of bioethics. Ravitsky et al. (2009) state that it would be necessary to focus on ideologies and ethical decisions that can protect the life of any individual. Mike's decision to take James to the Church instead of running dialysis is illogical and adversely impacts patient autonomy. In medical practice, a patient's autonomy should be promoted by making informed decisions and allowing the patient to have his way. However, in this situation, the key problem is that Mike decides on the parent and does not adequately consider the patient. Therefore, based on the provided evidence, making decisions without considering the patient would be detrimental.
Christian Thinking
The Christian thinks about health and sickness as managed by God. Christians believe that health is a gift and a virtue from God. Besides, health is due to God's love, and every individual should be thankful to God for their health. Therefore, there is a need to be thankful to God regarding health. Christians also view sickness as a common issue that should be timely managed to ensure safety. Christians embrace sickness as an issue that should be taken seriously before jeopardizing one's health (Rieg et al., 2018). Lastly, Christians also believe that any individual can get sick, and they should not be abandoned but need adequate care. Therefore, it is essential to understand that Christian views are fundamental and should be incorporated when an individual is healthy or sick.
Christians should think that medical intervention comes from God, and they should always consider it at all costs. Besides, Christians should not confuse the condition of any individual and spiritual needs. They should believe God is the provider of health, but after there are adequate medical actions.
