When undertaking reforms, there is a need for the leadership to take charge and ensure that the proposed are a success. This includes undertaking cost analysis with the aim of identifying the relevant equipment, technology, financial and human resources required. Additionally, in achieving the financial targets, the senior nurse managers and leaders are able to manage resources within budget constraints without neglecting key areas that require change (Goetz, Janney & Ramsey, 2011). Adequate planning to minimize resource wastage is but one aspect that is associated with quality improvement of care. As such, there was a proposed budget taking into account the salaries, required resources, personnel costs, equipment, education and travel costs during training.
Curtis & O'Connell (2011), point out that leadership skills are relevant to motivating and empowering nursing staff. A motivated workforce in turn improves the quality of patient care, and the nurse managers are also well placed to ensure efficiency and effectiveness by monitoring and containing costs.
