For a patient that is suffering from kidney failure, they have to constantly rely on mechanical means of removing electrolytes, fluids and other wastes from their blood. This is why they need dialysis to make sure that their blood does not become toxic. As such the patient will require a good vascular access with arteriovenous graft, AV fistula, so that they have adequate blood flow (National Kidney Foundation, 2016). This are pointers for a nurse that caring for such a patient. Furthermore, where the patient has diabetes, the situation is much more complicated and there is need to consider an interdisciplinary approach (Peter, 2015). This has to also consider the fact that, there is need to avoid complications such as stenosis, hemorrhage, thrombosis and infections (Peter, 2015).
Nurses have access to a community of nurses and medical practitioners, who will help in offering the best collaborative care.
