Organization’s Change Management
Change is often considered to be one of the constant for organizations. Most organizations are obliged to embrace change so that they can respond to the changes in technology and provide better services to their customers. Within hospitals, change has been seen especially on using electronic health to provide better services to the patients. In this paper, I am going to look at the technology changes that have taken place within the hospital industry with focus on MD Anderson.
Currently, hospitals implement electronic health record (EHR) as a strategy to reduce the rate of illegal access to patients’ private information. The traditional desperate system performed tasks separately, for example, one system did orders, one system did pharmacy, and one system did documentation. However, EHR combines all records into one platform for more integrated and efficient care for patients. The system has enabled centralization of records and efficient storage of patients’ records. Moreover, consultation expenses that were related to Epic go-live including expert services and fees drastically improved. However, the organization adopted the strategy of focusing on post implementation effectiveness to improve operational efficiencies and clinical productivity to enable the center return to its normal operations (Burns &Pauly, 2018). Also, the company decided to bring in new leadership it employed an interim president and a chief operating officer. The new leadership focused on increasing patients activities where those who were not previously treated now received the Medicare they needed. The strategy helped in reducing the volume of patients who had been told to wait for a long time before receiving their treatment.
The change negatively affected various stakeholders to the company including the employees, shareholders, regulatory authority, patients, and medical suppliers. First, almost 900 workers lost their jobs, the government lost a substantial amount of revenue that it collected from the company, the dividends to shareho...
