Q: What is the difference between statistically significant evidence and clinically significant evidence? How would each of these findings be used to advance an evidenced-based project?
Statistically significant evidence means that people can be reasonably sure that the result of the study did not occur because of chance. This is indicated by the p-values or the confidence intervals. The cutoff for statistical significance is 0.05 and when the p-value is less than 0.05 then there are statistically significant differences (Cohen, 2016). When the results are clinically significant, this indicates that they are important as they can be used in clinical practice, but the clinical significance depends on the judgment. When the results are clinically significant they tend to be associated with clinical benefits.
