The professional bureaucracy is the operating core of the institution while skills are the prime coordinating mechanism. The organizational structure allows for vertical and horizontal decentralization (Lunenburg 2012). The formalization allows little devolution to allow for the independence of the professionals in various sectors. The highly trained and experienced professionals offer non-routine services to the clients. The top management is comprised of a few managers and the middle managers are few and head various units. The organization has a huge supporting staff that offers most of the services in the institution and engage in support for the senior professionals. The organizational structure characterized by professional bureaucracies is designed to enhance innovation and offer high-quality services. Suggestively, the organization operates in a line structure. The bureaucratic organization design alludes that decisions are decentralized but limited to a particular group of people. Due to the people’s familiarity with such structures, there is a little misunderstanding in the decision-making process. People are oriented to the strategies set by the professions judging from their experience and credulity in the positions they hold. In line organizations, the authority and responsibilities of all actors are clearly defined. Subsequently, there is efficiency and simplicity of the interactions that lead to successful implementation of the strategies developed by the management (Singer, Falwell and Gaba 2009). The disadvantages associated with this design is the possibility of a monotony where the upper managers can have total control of the institution and dictate how things will be done on their terms. The fact that there are limited relationships in the organization structure, workers are likely to be alienated and might face difficulties to adjust to rapidly fluctuating working conditions (Singer, Falwell and Gaba 2009).
