1 Aside from the general characteristics of different oral lesions, some oral lesions might be differentiated based on their locations in the patient’s mouth. One example of a lesion that could change a diagnosis based on its location is a traumatic neuroma. Although traumatic neuromas can be present in different areas of the patient’s mouth, in most cases, these masses could be found in the mental foramen of the patient. This is because it affects the mental nerve which is located in the patient’s mental foramen. Accordingly, when the same mass is found in other areas of the patient’s mouth, a differential diagnosis for a palisaded encapsulated neuroma (PEN) could be tested for.
