Communication among Multidisciplinary Teams
Communication in healthcare is a fundamental approach to effective healthcare delivery. It is through effective communication that will allow a collaborative approach in managing patient with different illnesses. It will bring on different board cadres of health professional including physicians, surgeons, physiotherapists, pharmacist and infection control teams, amongst other. When managing the patient in this example, who has ARS secondary to pulmonary conditions and impaired cardiorespiratory functioning, it is essential to ensure that there is effective communication that will facilitate the positive exchange of information between the healthcare teams and the patient’s family, regarding the best management approaches.
Our communication styles can influence other people. People are likely to be drawn to improper communication at the expense of what is being communicated. Inappropriate communication tends to become the focus of listeners' attention. Sometimes, communication is just impulsive action; we might not think about listeners’ opinions but focus on our own opinions and feelings. We might need to establish open communication that nurtures thrust between multidisciplinary teams and other people.
Besides, it is important to be aware of communication barriers that can derail information exchange among multidisciplinary healthcare teams. These impediments to effective communication include physical, psychological, and social barriers.
Through critical thinking and assessment skills, nurses often discover changes in patient health status. These changes must be communicated to physicians in a timely approach that will allow urgent interventions that would mitigate such changes. Communication between nurses, physicians, and other relevant health provision teams needs to create a culture of safety for all patients and an environment supportive of teamwork across the discipline (Streeton et al., 2016). Communication patterns change depending on specialty during operative emergencies. Such communication elects a response that relies on the clinical status of the patient. Quality communication should be emphasized after acute changes in patients, and it must be recognized that communication strategies and patterns are dynamic across multidisciplinary teams (Davis et al., 2017).
I feel that communication skills are paramount to my nursing career and to the quality of care I offer to the patient. Besides, an effective communication strategy provides me with the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. To nurture m...
