Tony Robbins is a self-made billionaire. He is a legend in the field of personal development. Apart from his achievement, Tony Robbins is a motivational speaker through books, seminars, and talks. Following this, Robbins has reached many people regarding motivation. He practices and promotes good leadership skills. Therefore, I would like to talk about how he has particularly adopted leadership as a vocation, the qualities I would wish to emulate to inspire followership and the shortcomings of his leadership approach I would overcome.
Tony Robbins approach to leadership is based on extraordinary qualities. Among them include decisiveness, resourcefulness, those that serve a higher purpose than themselves and influence. He argues that decision making is centrally placed to shape up destiny. This means that the power of any such leader would largely depend on the decisions made. Additionally, Robbins says that good leaders go through tough times to make difficult decisions correctly.
According to Robbins, a leader should have the guts to draw a line in the sand and make the decision that no one else would (Fernandez, 2018). This is opposed to the fact that many people usually spend much time trying to come up with the ‘right’ decision. The quality of decisiveness is important because the decision made by a leader can positively shape people's life towards a particular direction (Rosenbloom & Valdez, 2016). Robbins describes life a gift, “life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” This implies that leaders should be willing to go the extra mile and make those decisions that no one else would for the benefit of everyone. Secondly, Robbins regards resourcefulness the quality of a good leader. Leadership is taken as a stepping stone to becoming resourceful. Normally, when people fail to achieve their dreams, they blame it on lack of resources such as money, people or even capital. Following this, leaders around the world understand that resources are never the problem, but the lack of resourcefulness (Daft, 2014).
