Informatics and healthcare technologies are an important part of delivering healthcare. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) (2011), having knowledge and skills in informatics and healthcare technologies in areas such as data management, health technologies, and communication technologies, among others, is essential for nurses.
Through my nursing graduate education, I have learned that it is important to integrate technology into patient care. These technologies are there to improve care delivery and coordination. As such, their integration is crucial in meeting the growing needs of healthcare in the diverse populations that nurses serve. I have also learned about electronic health records and their role in enhancing efficiency through quick access to real-time patient records.
