1 Definition of CAM
Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) are pharmaceutical drugs and procedures that are not traditional medical treatment components. In other words, medications are not part of regular medicine (CAM). Acupuncture and homeopathy are among the treatments available, as are colonic irrigation, aromatherapy, and meditation (Wolf et al., 2021). Cancer patients may use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to manage the negative impacts of their medications, such as pain, nausea, and exhaustion.
2 Description of the patient who mostly uses CAM
Even though older individuals have poorer health, middle-aged individuals are more likely to seek complementary and alternative medicine. Individuals of various races and ethnicities often use self-care techniques in comparable numbers. It’s not too good to be true, but it is essential to mention that complementary and alternative medicine is not always a feasible solution for every ailment or individual. It is significant to conduct discussions with patients on the practice of CAM; moreover, the discussion should be aligned with consultations linked to the patient’s preference. If some uses of CAM, including herbal medicine, fail to meet the patient’s safety measures, then the healthcare professional should give reasonable evidence for an agreement meditation (Wolf et al., 2021).
