The dynamic healthcare landscape and rising demands on nurse graduates call for a paradigm shift in nursing education that is ideally inclined towards effectiveness. In collaboration with their preceptors, student nurses should be able to reflect on their learning to enhance learning approaches and their ability to meet patients’ needs in practice contexts. Educators must seek personal reflection and perspectives of their students and colleagues to ensure effective curriculum delivery. This paper reviews the areas the preceptor identified for strength and improvement, changes that need to be incorporated into the lesson plan and the value of interprofessional collaboration curriculum design.
The key area of strength in the lesson plan is that it incorporated student orientation into the class. Effective orientation produces nurse graduates qualified to provide quality and competent care. It also included teaching and learning activities to ensure the students gain skills, attitudes, and knowledge established in the lesson objectives (Van-Diggele et al., 2020). The opportunities for scholarship necessary to advance teaching practices include expanding the knowledge of student learning and establishing best practices for augmenting their development and learning (Billings & Halstead, 2019).
