Nursing Care Models
Your Name
Subject and Section
Introduction
According to Finkelman (2012), Nursing care models are systematic methods that the nurses adopt and practice to provide quality healthcare for their patients. While it is possible to provide care for patients without the utilization of these Nursing models, it would be difficult to reduce the expenses needed and utilize the available workforce in the most efficient way possible without the use of a particular mode. In its most basic description, Nursing Care models could be summed up in seven (7) different types, which are (1) total patient care, (2) team nursing, (3) care service team nursing, (4) case management model, (5) functional nursing, (6) primary nursing, and (7) complementary model (Finkelman, 2016). All of this models function differently from each other and provides different levels of compatibility based on the healthcare setting. Nevertheless, they all work towards a single goal, that is, the strengthening of collaborative nursing, independent management, and effective leadership within the organization. Such an example of this would be the use of patient-centered care at the ambulatory care facility that the author of this paper is working on. Patient-centered care is described with a type of focus on “what is meaningful and valuable to the individual patient” (Epstein & Street, 2011). To have a better understanding of this type of care, the succeeding section of this paper would first describe the specific clinic that the author has worked with. After this, an analysis based on how patient-centered care (and probably other models of care present) is delivered would be expounded. All in all, the author believes that due to the nature and goals of this facility, a type of care that prioritizes the individual needs would be most viable.
Healthcare Facility
The clinic mentioned above in this article is one of the twenty-four (24) ambulatory care providers that provide additional help for out-patients in a hospital. Being located in a suburban community that has about five-thousand (5,000) citizens coming from different backgrounds in life, the clinic is focused on addressing health-care issues regardless of the diversity of the patients’ population that it has. In doing this, the facility offers a wide variety of services including primary care, obstetrics, and endocrinology among others. However, due to the distance of the clinic to the houses of the staff, its usual operating hours are only from 9:00 am to 5:00pm but could change depending on the need. However, due to the number of adolescent-related crimes and pregnancies in the area, the clinic also aimed to help provide counseling and in-house treatment for the children living near it. Despite its size, the clinic has a lot of staff including one (1) Administrator, six (6) doctors, eight (8) registered nurses, two or three (2/3) registrars, three (3) technicians for patient care, four (4) social workers, one (1) physical therapist, and (1) occupational therapist, and several other staffs that do different works. The doctors that are stationed in this hospital have different specializations whereas the nurses also came from different backgrounds, which made them adept ...
