Nurse burnout is a significant nursing problem that poses challenges to the quality of patient care. Mudallal et al. (2017) argue that nursing burnout is characterized by feelings of frustration, lack of motivation, and emotional exhaustion, which lead to a decline in work effectiveness and efficiency (Mudallal, Othman, & Al Hassan, 2017). Based on the 2006 report from the World Health Organization (WHO), there is a shortage of healthcare providers globally, particularly nurses. In that light, available caregivers engage in more work than they are supposed to do. They work for long hours, leading to physical and mental exhaustion and eventually burnout.
Shah et al. (2021) conducted a cross-sectional survey comprising over 50,000 registered nurses from the United States of America (USA). Specifically, about 31.5% of the participants who left their employment in 2018 cited burnout as the primary problem that contributed to it (Shah et al., 2021).
