 According to Lopez-Martinez (2019), Morphine has been used to manage moderate-to-severe cancer-related pain for the longest time. The mechanism of action of this drug, when administered to a patient, is that it attaches itself to the opioid receptor, which can be found in the brain or spinal cord. Thus, when the opioid has attached itself to the receptor, the amount of pain that an individual feels is reduced due to the reduced transmission of pain messages to the brain (Makhlouf, 2020). Furthermore, some products that may interact with this drug include butorphanol, nalbuphine, and pain medications. Despite Morphine being widely used, various ethical and cultural factors affect the use of this drug. According to Lopez-Martinez (2019), there is a significant difference in the side effects of Morphine on Latino and non-Latino Caucasian children. Also, Chinese immigrants are reported to have a complex attitude toward the use of this drug for the pain management of cancer patients. Thus, culture and ethnicity affect how this drug is used in different regions.
