Stage 1 Essential (Primary) Hypertension
Essential hypertension, also called primary hypertension, is high blood pressure that lacks a known secondary cause. The blood pressure values Stage 1 hypertension is a systolic pressure of 130 to 139 mmHg and a diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg. Its etiology is unknown or is poorly understood. However, there are risk factors that are associated with primary hypertension. These risk factors include a diet with high fats and sugars, stress, genetics, excess salty, race, alcohol consumption, minimal exercise activity, and being overweight and obese. Primary hypertension often lacks obvious or apparent symptoms. However, individuals with essential hypertension may present headaches, dizziness, and blurred vision, but these symptoms have less likelihood to manifest until blood pressure readings reach very high levels. Hypertension has often controlled a combination of lifestyle changes and medication. Patients with stage 1 essential hypertension are advised to adopt healthy dietary habits marked by food with less fat, less sugar, less processed food but with more fiber, vitamins, and micronutrient elements. They are also encouraged to exercise regularly, reduce alcohol and tobacco use and adopt better stress management techniques. When lifestyle changes failed to lead to desired blood pressure measures, pharmacological interventions can complement lifestyle strategies. Some of the classes of drugs that can be used include beta-blockers (e.g., Atenolol, carvedilol), calcium channel blockers (e.g. Amlodipine, nifedipine), Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g., enalapril, captopril), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) (e.g., valsartan) and diuretics (e.g. Lasix (furosemide),
