Cetirizine
Cetirizine, an active ingredient of Zyrtec allergy medications, is a non-sedating antiallergic drug that works by blocking the H-1 histamine receptors on cells, hence, preventing the histamine from activating cells containing the H-1 receptors. However, unlike first-generation antiallergens, Cetirizine causes less drowsiness because it does not readily enter and affects the brain (Corsico et al., 2019). Research shows that Cetirizine rarely elicits serious allergic reactions. However, some likely hints for monitoring include swelling/itching of the throat, tongue, or face, trouble breathing, and severe dizziness. Cetirizine is often classified as a non-drowsy antiallergen, although some patients have reported that it makes them feel dizzy (Zhang et al., 2013). Other notable side effects include dry mouth, headaches, diarrhea, feeling sick, and dizziness.
Research shows that Cetirizine does not have severe interactions. However, tranylcypromine and Isocarboxazid stimulate serious interactions with this drug. Other substances that produce moderate interactions with Cetirizine include vemurafenib, ponatinib, lurasidone, hyaluronidase, daclatasvir, and bosutinib.
