The Alaska Health Insurance Reform Name Institution The Alaska Health Insurance Reform The United States health care system is quickly changing due to the pressures on cost, quality and accessibility. These pressures have forced the state governments to introduce reforms in to the health insurance sector as a way of ensuring that the cost of care is equivalent to its quality. Alaska has been in the forefront in introducing such reforms and the state is among the state leaders in terms of reforms in the health care industry. The most recent reform in the industry was passed in 2016 by the Alaskan legislature. The new legislature recreated the high-risk pool comprehensive health insurance fund as a reinsurance fund. This new fund will be funded using the 2.7% premium task that is taxed on insured people in the state (Jost, 2016). In the past, this amount was only collected from health insurers but under the new rule all the insurers are supposed to contribute towards this fund. The increased funding will be used to reinsure high cost cases that are covered by insurance companies.
