AS a trainee, during my encounters with various patients within the vicinity, I experienced different levels of challenges and struggles during my shift. Of course, between being personally taking action and learning, the action is completely different. Brydges & Butler (2012), in addition, implied that self-reflection is needed within every medical practice, especially for those who are new in the field. This is why, featuring the three most challenging cases I have encountered, made me evaluate myself and let me learn more of what I did not know before.
First, was a patient diagnosed with a substance abuse disorder, and to make it more challenging, the patient was homeless and had no medical insurance. The challenging part was the treatment as the patient was addicted to any drugs. It was hard determining the appropriate way of treatment that does not put pressure on his disorder. This made me think how important it is to consider all the patient's health information to prepare the most appropriate action in treating their disorder. Following this is the patient diagnosed with alcohol addiction, but the hard part was an unwanted pregnancy. Learning about the baby has complicated the situation since the baby was long exposed to alcohol intake and the treatment was limited since there are so many factors. From there, I learned that it is important to be knowledgeable in this area and not neglect to learn each treatment. These kinds of cases make it hard for a medical practitioner to determine an appropriate treatment method. Lastly was a patient who was diagnosed with depression but did not want to take treatment. The challenging part was determining a strategy that could encourage the patient to accept the treatment despite the patient's refusal. Since I knew that not treating depression would only result in more risks, I struggled to create a way to prepare treatment that the patient would not mind.
