Leadership is an essential skill for any organization. It can determine its success or failure, just by how the leader motivates his members and guide them towards a common goal. However, leadership would not be effective without the use of strategic management. Strategic management helps create a plan of action that brings ideas and goals into actual practice. Accordingly, this article would focus on the strategic management model. This model presents a step-by-step plan that helps a leader guide his members objectively and effectively. Specifically, the author would focus on understanding the need for a strategic management model in the healthcare setting. This includes its use and benefits in the employee’s well-being and customer satisfaction, among others. All in all, the author believes that a Strategic Management Model allows the organization to be resilient, dynamic, and proactive in their day-to-day activities.
The Strategic Management Model
The Strategic Management Model is one of the most common models used in directing an organization. This model can further be divided into different subtypes, such as Porter’s Five Forces Model, the Value Chain Analysis, and the Gap Planning, among others CITATION Hignd \l 1033 (HigherStudy.com, n.d.). Despite the differences in approach of each of these sub-models, it is worth noting that some of the significant similarities that every one of them including; (1) focus on analysis and assessment, (2) efficient strategy formulation, (3) orientation on execution, and (4) evaluation and feedback mechanisms. Each of these is crucial in providing efficient and effective healthcare for patients.
Importance for Healthcare Organizations
One of the primary importance or strategic management model is the provision of the best quality of medical care. This stems from the fact that healthcare organizations are primarily designed in order to ensure their patients’ well-being. Accordingly, several studies show that strategic management can improve both the patient’s well-being and satisfaction. In one study conducted by McColl-Kennedy et al., 2017, the authors found out that a leadership model that encourages an ‘understanding of patient’s emotions’ during the duration of the treatment is effective in improving their well-being. This shows that management plays an essential role in improving the ‘patient experience’ for hospital treatments.
Aside from improving the well-being of the patient, strategic management can also be crucial to maintain the sustainability of the organization. This includes the assurance of its profitability and the well-being of its staff in order to ensure the continuance of its operations, which can both be achieved with the use of this model.
