Standardized nursing languages can be described as a common language used by nurses to describe care. The nursing terminologies and coding systems should continually be used in the field of nursing due to various benefits they bring. Standardized nursing languages enhance communication among the nurses and other health practitioners. It is not only at the national level but also at the international scale. The importance of this is that the nurses become aware of the interventions that are yet to be implemented in their area of work.
Patient care is significantly improved where documentation of care using standardized language and coding systems have been adopted. Several surveys show that where nursing intervention is employed, there is improved health care. For instance, a survey was done by Cavendish to establish the cause, signs and symptoms of acute abdominal pains in children (Rutherford, 2008). The study was based on members of National Assembly of school nurses. The outcome of the survey showed decreased percentages in intensity, persistence, and tolerance of the symptoms. Besides improvement, nurses also adhere to the standards of care thus providing quality output.

Nurses need to show the exact thing they do for patients; this is because nurses use notes rather than patients' records and care plan to report to each other. Computerized documentation of nursing systems increases the sensitivity of the activities of the nursing care. It, therefore, aids in showing the nurses' contribution to the patients' outcome thus making them visible.
Another importance of coding systems is the enhancement of collecting data that is useful in the nursing outcome evaluation. Keeping records of the nurses’ outcome using standardized languages provides consistency. This is employed in the comparison of the nurses' performance.
