Essay Instructions:

Dear writer,
Please follow the teacher's instructions.
Thank you
Here are some reflective questions from the perspective of your previous experience. Pick a question that interests you; copy and paste it into Journal and answer it.
Remember your journal entry does not need to be a scholarly paper with in-text citations and reference list. Jot down what comes to you. Explore your thoughts and feelings. Write a paragraph or two from the heart.
Week 12
1. What were the professional expectations of the nurse for maintaining quality in their practice?
2. What were the professional expectations of the nurse for reviewing and reflecting on their practice?
3. What were the professional expectations of the nurse for developing learning plans to continue their competence?
4. Have you thought about your nursing career? Any ideas on how you will get it going, in other words, jumpstart it?
For this question, you may consult the Waddell, Donner, & Wheeler (2009) source listed in the reading list, available at the Waterfront bookstore if you need to. This source was also mentioned in week 7's reading.

eLessonQuality Assurance• The Regulated Health Professions Act requires that each regulatory college develop, establish and maintain standards of practice to assure the quality practice within the profession, and programs to promote continuing competence among its members.• One of the ways CNO meets this requirement is through its Quality Assurance (QA) Program. Our QA Program was developed to help nurses in Ontario maintain and continuously improve their competence.• Participation in CNO's QA program is mandatory for all members of the college. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in disciplinary action including a hefty fine.• The QA program consists of 3 components:Self Assessment, Practice Assessment, Peer AssessmentSelf Assessment• Self Assessment is a yearly, mandatory requirement of ALL practicing nurses.• Every year nurses practicing in Ontario are required to participate in a formal process designed to assist nurses to maintain their competence in today's rapidly changing health care environment.• Nurses reflect on their practice almost every day. Reviewing aspects of their practice and determining what worked and what could have been done differently is how nurses maintain their ability to provide high-quality care to their clients.• CNO's QA program formalizes this process and helps nurses to continually improve their practice specifically around the Standards of Practice.• Self Assessment is a three-step process. Each year, nurses who practice in Ontario are required to:1. complete a self-assessment related to 2 Standards of Practice identified by CNO2. obtain peer input on identified strengths and weaknesses3. create and maintain a learning plan to meet your identified learning goalsPractice Assessment• Some members will be randomly selected each year to participate in Practice Assessment. This involves submitting your Learning Plan to the CNO and participating in assigned assessments.Peer Assessment• A CNO assigned peer assessor will review the results of your Practice Assessment and make recommendations to the QA Committee who will determine if you have met the QA requirements or require you to engage in remedial activities. For more information go to the following CNO links: • QA (quality assurance) Program CNOo once you get to this website, look to the left at all of the hyperlinks to overview, self-assessment, practice assessment and peer assessment, QA resources, FAQ: quality assurance questions, my QA: self assessment webcast, and QA program overview webcast Best Practices Guidelines• The College of Nurses of Ontario and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) are committed to developing tools that will help nurses provide the highest quality care possible.• CNO's Practice Standards and Guidelines contain the professional expectations for all Ontario nurses and apply in a variety of practice settings and situations. RNAO's Best Practice Guidelines supports Ontario nurses by providing them with evidence based guidance on a wide variety of client care issues.Critical Thinking in Nursing
The foundation of professional practice is autonomy in decision-making and respect for clinical judgment. Developing the skills to become a confident, skilled expert nurse requires deeply honed critical thinking skills.• Critical Thinking has been defined as thinking about your thinking while you are thinking.• Decision-making involves asking appropriate questions and considering the answers using a variety of thinking skills. The skill and willingness to question has been called an "attitude of inquiry", and is a component of critical thinking.• Critical thinking is integral to decision-making and includes the activities of organizing assessment information, recognizing patterns and compiling evidence to support the conclusions drawn.• Critical Thinking is essential for priority setting, decision making, sorting information, formulating diagnoses, planning and evaluating skill.• Every nurse in Ontario needs to work hard on developing skill in critical thinking.Check it out!Watch a video on Critical thinking, coping, and communication

Week 12 Journal- Quality Assurance, Practice Reflection, and Developing Learning Plan
Professionals must offer quality medical services to their patients ethically. In my previous experience, medical practitioners focused on quality assurance within the facility. In this case, I got to carry out my duties to build patient confidence by providing quality patient care. In this case, I had to learn to continually reflect on my care practice to enable me to improve on the areas that I was not perfect. Also, frequent reviews gave me a chance to improve my patient care skills as an RN. Also, developing a learning strategy allowed me to incorporate all patient care techniques into my practice. The institution's quality assurance protocols gave me a chance to learn more from my supervisor, colleagues, and other medical practitioners. Eventually, I learned the importance of quality assurance, the reflection of patient care practices, and coming up with a lesson plan in positively improving my nursing profession.
