Infant Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding has numerous benefits. The various benefits of feeding the newborn infants are well documented. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), so as to achieve optimal population growth and sound healthy in infants, they should be breastfed for an exclusive period of 6 months CITATION Art12 \l 1033 (Schanler, 2012). However, the numbers of mothers who meet the breastfeeding objectives that are set are few. In this research, the different reasons why the mothers prefer formula feeding to breastfeeding are discussed. The various reasons why some of the mothers do not prefer breastfeeding can be grouped into three broad categories.
Studies showed that the mothers avoided breastfeeding their infants because of individual reasons. Some of the mothers did not want to breastfeed because they viewed breastfeeding to be a waste of time. Some of the mothers considered it to be an embarrassing activity. They also attributed breastfeeding to be the primary factor that results in the loss of shape CITATION Art12 \l 1033 (Schanler, 2012). As a way of maintaining their shape, some mothers chose to do away with breastfeeding their infants.
Another reason that made the mothers not to breastfeed their infants was household responsibilities. When asked to give the main reasons why they did not breastfeed their infants, they complained about the various daily household activities that tied them. They were involved in different activities such as cooking for the family and taking care of the other children. They also said that their partners were not very supportive of their efforts of taking care of the infants and as such, they were the only ones who were left with the responsibility of bringing up the infants CITATION Art12 \l 1033 (Schanler, 2012).
The women also said that they avoided breastfeeding to the circumstance that surround the upbringing of the infant. The women who were asked for the reasons said that they had busy work schedules. These schedules resulted to lack of adequate time for feeding the infants.
