Informed Consent
Informed consent involves a healthcare provider educating a patient about benefits, risks, and alternatives that might arise from medical intervention or procedure. The patient undergoing the medical operation must be competent enough to decide whether to undergo the intervention or process (Chan et al., 2017). Since patients have a natural right to what happens to their bodies, informed consent is both a legal and ethical obligation of healthcare providers to the patient. Informed consent encompasses significant elements that might cause harm if not adhered to. This paper discusses the aspects of informed consent and the occurrences that can occur when not adhered to.
