Healthcare Access: Health Information Technology in the AHRQ
As far as the AHRQ is concerned, the continuous improvement and growth of the healthcare industry and the delivery of services therein is a perennial goal. In essence, the AHRQ is charged with the task of spearheading transformation within the healthcare industry in a way that promises improvements in the quality of care provided and the significance of research collected.
One of the most important programs within the AHRQ is the Health Information Technology program. At its core, the purpose of this program is to facilitate the development of electronic health records for patients. By doing so, this program can help achieve part of its mission, which is to make health information available whenever and wherever it is needed. By facilitating this ease of access to healthcare records, this program aims to improve the quality of care as patients can be attended to as soon as possible. Similarly, this trajectory is aimed at ensuring that healthcare is made more cost effective for patients, essentially reducing the burden that accessing healthcare services imposes on patients and their families (Wang, Kung, & Byrd, 2018). According to the Health Information Technology Division 2017 annual report, 150 grants were active during the year and they totaled $153.2 million dollars (Health Information Technology, 2018). In every way possible, this funding plays an integral role in the development of a more technologically-adept healthcare industry, which further contributes towards the development of a better healthcare industry.
As far as the AHRQ is concerned, the continuous improvement and development of healthcare service delivery is integral to the organization’s mission. However, it is equally vital to note that the strategic plan of this organization, as well as that of the Health Information Technology division, focuses on the holistic development of healthcare. In the case of this particular program, there is significant focus on the development of a strategic plan that looks to develop technology aimed at improving the technologies used in the healthcare industry such as Electronic Health/Medical Record systems, clinical messaging, and consumer health informatics just to name a few (Health Information Technology, 2018). From the aforementioned technologies, it becomes clear that the AHRQ, as well as the Health Information Technology program, are focused on the development of innovative technological solutions that can help promote the development of healthcare.
In this way, the program succeeds at ensuring that research into effective technologies is undertaken in a way that promotes development in quality of care and the improvement of the full arc of care. On this issue, the AHRQ as well as the Health Information Technology succeeds greatly (Health Information Technology, 2018). Once the technological advancements and gains made from these developments are consolidated, the AHRQ will have made tremendous developments in the quality and delivery of care through the integration of information technology into every aspect of healthcare delivery (Wang et al., ...
