Health Care Perspective
Between the many American social systems, there is none that has undergone so much revolution than the health care system. In the last several decades, the health care delivery system has changed completely in terms of the provision of care and the philosophical processes behind the same. In the past, the system was based on a rather different system than what is largely in place today. Health consumers were used to the Fee-for-service system. This is a system that required the consumers to pay for whatever services they needed or wanted depending on a number of factors. As such, the health care system operate within the free market. This made it harder for the consumers to get the right kind of service especially where the procedure involved was expensive. In most of the cases, the health care providers dictated the price of the services and if the consumers did not match the monetary requirement, they would not be served. As such, for most of the people that do not make much money or those that would be considered to be below the poverty line, this is was an expensive system. The health care services were sold to the highest bidders (Newport, 2013). The poor in the society did not have enough to get quality care that they needed. Doctors mostly evaluated their success, with reference to the amount of money that they could make which equated to getting the highest number of patient per hour (Andrews, 2015). The change in the health care system toward the collaborative approach between the care providers and the insurance companies with the ultimate control of the government, has largely streamlined the services (“Patients' Perspectives of Care Survey - Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Servicesâ€Β, 2016). Consumers now have the choice to choose with reference to the different plans that are available to them. Even the poor in the society now have a chance to subscribe to some of the more affordable health care premiums where they can get health care services for their families compared to before, when it was quite expensive.
An evaluation of research further indicates that most of the consumers are comfortable with the changes that have to come to the health care system. This is relative to the fact that they are now able to provide health care to their families where they couldn’t in the past. In the last five years, according to research, most of the consumers have found favor for the system compared to the Fee-for –service approach which was quite expensive (Newport, 2013). This is not to say that there aren’t other factions of the community that are not entire comfortable with the system changes. However, the larger majority of the American society are comfortable with the changes that have come to the health care delivery system.
American economy is largely based on the capitalist philosophy, where one harnesses their skills and sells them to the highest bidder for the best price they the market is will to pay. This has been the perception of the health care system in the past, where the health care professionals were selling their service...
