Heath care disparities
As stated in the previous assessment, health care inequalities are severe difficulties in the healthcare industry, and one of the most common healthcare disparities, such as less access to health care than whites, endangers patient safety and can result in serious harm or even death. This examination will look at and explore the many health care inequities that exist and the possible harm or injury that patients may face. Many rules are now in place in health care facilities to decrease the risk of drug errors; nonetheless, extra efforts may be necessary (Flores, 2020). Health inequities, also known as health disparities, have recently received a lot of attention from health professionals and policy experts and a renewed focus from government health agencies. Varying access to medical care, treatment options, and outcomes among various racial and ethnic groups have been identified as a dynamic in multiple research. Cost and availability of healthcare, primary care providers, and preventative health programs are all variables that contribute to such discrepancies.
Elements of health care disparities
Across the country, Health inequities—differences Social, ethnic, economic, and environmental factors continue to influence the quality of health, health care, and health outcomes experienced by different groups. Health disparities are exacerbated by environmental factors such as poor air quality, language barriers, and health behaviours. Genetics, access to care, poor quality of care, and community characteristics, insufficient access to healthy foods, poverty, and a lack of personal support systems are all factors to consider (Flores, 2020). Social determinants of health are the social, environmental circumstances in which people live, work, and play. Racism, low socioeconomic status, and people with cognitive and physical disabilities are disproportionately exposed to conditions and environments that negatively impact health risks and outcomes, leading to higher rates of health disparities. Unintentional injuries, heart disease, cancer or respiratory diseases, for example, are more common in rural Americans than in metropolitan areas. As a result of health disparities, states and communities face huge costs. For example, health disparities cost the W. K. Kellogg Foundation and Altarum $43 billion in lost productivity and $94 billion in increased medical costs per year, according to a 2019 analysis. Significantly unfavourable health outcomes, including newborn mortality, life expectancy, and the development of chronic disease, demonstrate racial and ethnic imbalances that are unrelated to other causes.
Analysis
The COVID-19 epidemic focused on socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, economic and environmental inequalities among the population. Through my experience and studies, I have established that some ethnic and racial minority groups are at increased risk of COVID-19 and have severe and long-term impacts (Chunara, 2021). COVID-19 exposure is higher in racial and ethnic minority groups with lower education and incomes due to healthcare discrimination.
