GIA’s TMS Therapy – Curing Depression in Miami, Florida

Introduction
On 31st July 2022, I visited Gia Miami (GIA), a prevalent mental health service provider in Miami, Florida. GIA specializes in treating cognitive diseases, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental disorders caused by chronic pain. GIA offers advanced and responsive treatment to evidence-based patients. The facility contains different technologies that deliver cognitive-behavioral therapies to patients (Bonci, 2022). I visited GIA’s Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy, designed to cure depression among patients, primarily adults. According to Huato and Chavez (2021), depression increased unprecedentedly among average Americans during the pandemic. The COVID-19 outbreak introduced social and economic adversities, such as unemployment, which triggered anxiety and depression due to immediate lifestyle changes. The intervention designed by GIA focused on treating depression among young American adults and introducing consistency in life. The TMS therapy is a systematic approach to help youngsters to cope with stress, chronic depression, and related cognitive-behavioral diseases (Personal Communication). TMS therapy incorporates adults from different backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities. However, the following criteria are defined to exclude individuals from the program (Bonci, 2022):
* Pregnancy,
* Implanted metal object in the body,
* Additional medication,
* Brain damage or injury, and
* Genetic history of seizure and epilepsy
Discussion
Objective Impression of the TMS Therapy Program
The TMS therapy would involve electromagnetic coils attached to the client’s head. The coils would take a reading of the client’s brain functions under pressurizing situations. Subsequently, the readings indicate motor functions and response time of patients suffering from depression. Higher readings indicate severe depression conditions. TMS therapy aims to provide relaxation, cheerful surroundings, and hope to re-perform and progress through challenges. GIA offers a comfortable and soothing ambiance to clients to overcome depression. The staff is hospitable and aims to entertain clients with autonomy, relaxation, and comfort (Bonci, 2022). The process eases brain functions and realigns motor skills accordingly, essential to cope with routine activities. The environment would reconnect patients with people and reduce depression at a fast pace. The coils would take continuous readings to monitor progress and track necessary improvements regularly (Personal Communication). Hence, the program’s fundamental objective fulfills the core function of curing rising depression among patients, particularly after the pandemic.
Observed Therapeutic Factors
The two factors out of many includes:
* Psychiatric Evaluation
* Psychotherapeutic Evaluation
The psychiatric evaluation is a mandatory package of the program. The TMS therapy involves this evaluation to allow therapists to acquire an accurate evaluation of a patient’s condition. Through psychiatric evaluation, therapists measure if patients are involved in substance abuse, alcohol consumption, ...
