Gender equality in nursing is treating and representing all genders equally. Women have always dominated nursing. However, gender equality in nursing promotes breaking down conventional gender conventions and promoting equal chances, rights, and acknowledgment for everyone.
Key Aspects of Gender Equality in the Nursing Profession
Gender equality in nursing is an essential component that must be addressed and prioritized to attain equality. I have discussed these key aspects in the field of nursing. The first one is equal chances. Providing equitable education, training, and employment to all genders is the first step to gender equality in nursing as it creates a more inclusive atmosphere that represents patients (Andrew et al., 2022). Creating an atmosphere where aptitude and competence are valued above gender requires eliminating recruiting and hiring discrimination. Barriers to entrance must be removed to ensure nursing equality as well nursing programs should welcome all genders to attract a diverse student body. Nursing schools recognize that practitioners' skills and devotion are worth more than gender identification by offering equitable entry to these programs.
Second, as nursing has traditionally been identified with women, gender equality requires addressing the underrepresentation of males in nursing. Encouragement of males to pursue nursing challenges preconceptions and diversifies the field (Shim & Park, 2023). Gender equality also promotes nursing leadership by women, and breaking the glass barrier allows women to contribute their knowledge and experience at all nurse management levels.
The third aspect is pay equity. Gender-based pay inequalities persist in nursing and other occupations. Eliminating gender wage gaps is necessary for nursing gender equality, and nursing abilities, expertise, and accomplishments should be equitably paid regardless of gender.
