2.Briefly identify and describe the hormones produced by "master gland" found in Figure 27.1 and the target organs in which they exert their effects (Figure 27.2).
The pituitary gland or hypophysis is often known as the master gland of the body, but the hypothalamus control pituitary functioning. The pituitary gland is found in the sella turcica of the sphenoid bone. Gonadotropins–follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) regulates gamete production and hormonal activity of the gonads (ovaries and testes). The adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) regulates the endocrine activity of the adrenal cortex. The thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), or thyrotropin, nfluences the growth and activity of the thyroid gland (Marieb & Smith, 2016). The growth hormone (GH) determines the body size. Prolactin (PRL) stimulates breast milk production and oxytocin, stimulates uterine contractions during birth
3.Briefly discuss the function of all target organs identified above.Reproductive system (ovaries and testes)-Stimulates production of sex hormones by gonads and also stimulates production of sperm and eggs.
Female reproductive system- Targets uterine contraction during child birth.
