There are several key differences between the food pyramid and the plate model. First, the food pyramid had a significant emphasis on grains. Grains constituted the lion’s share of the food servings and were found near the bottom of the pyramid (Sarac & Butnariu, 2020). My plate model is quite different since it only sets aside one quadrant of the plate for grains. The plate model particularly emphasizes the consumption of fruits and vegetables since these comprise half of the plate. Secondly, the food pyramid recommends the intake of fats, oils and sugars in small quantities. These items appeared at the top of the pyramid, and the advice was that they should be taken sparingly.
