Food is one of the significant needs of an individual to live. It centers the people's life as it also serves as a source of life force. In different countries, the essence of food holds various meanings since each country has its set of traditions and cultures. This created the concept of having various cuisines that suits the taste of their beholder. German culture is one of the many countries that give importance to its food culture.
Food Culture
In Germany, food is an essential being because of its meaning towards ethnicity. For Henderson (2004), food symbolizes a more profound meaning towards the country of Germany. He elaborated that food creates the unique identity of the German culture and plays a crucial role in it. It also serves as a symbol for German history which powerfully depicts its culture and ethnicity. On the other hand, Stecker (2013) stated that food has symbolized celebration even before and is sometimes also considered another form of love. To elaborate, the idea of food within this culture is more profound than in any other country. This implies how important food is in their culture, which creates their identity as Germans.
Health Beliefs
Traditionally, their dishes are always full of high condensed fats, which significantly affect their health. They use natural cream and butter for cooking and serve food such as decadent pastries, boiled dishes, any form of meat, seafood, and many more. Foods cooked in casseroles and freshly picked vegetable dishes are also prevalent. These kinds of food consumption could lead to various health risks such as cholesterol (Stecker, 2013).
