When a disaster strikes within the healthcare setting, the organization must have solid partnerships and plans before the disaster strikes. As a healthcare professional, several steps that need to be implemented to contain the situation come into my mind. The first action is to activate the emergency operations plan to ensure the disaster response is not hindered by miscommunication or disorganization. It ensures that the organization remains calm and moves confidently through the crisis wilds much easier (Maryville University, 2021). Secondly, I would activate the Incident Command System (ICS). The ICS offers guidance on organizing resources to the incident and processes to control the response via its successive phases. It assists planners in investigating the hazard centered on incoming information to generate coordinated, synchronized, and integrated plans (Public Health Emergency, 2012).
