My work as a Nursing assistant began back in 2012 and goes on today in Stafford. I work under the directions of a Registered Nurse to provide hands-on nursing care to residents, patients, customers and clients in wide range of healthcare settings. My job includes providing assistance with eating, toileting, bathing, oral care and dressing to those who cannot do these tasks alone. This position has seen be gather a lot of experience besides acquiring a lot of knowledge about provision of healthcare and safety to patients in a hospital setup.
As a nursing assistant, I have been able to learn how to take weight and height measurements for the patients. Through working with the registered nurse, I have observed how it is done for quite some time and today have progressed from that state of watching into doing it all alone. I can enter these values in a record book as the nurse use to do. I have also gained experience on how to detect vital signs in patients that relate to certain conditions. My supervisor has even developed more confidence in me as before and usually describes me as a sharp and fast learning nurse.
Additionally, working with a wide range of professionals has enabled me to develop good interpersonal and communication skills. During my duties, I usually interact with physical and occupational therapists, nurses, doctors, medical technicians among many others. Working with such a group of highly respected personnel in the society has made me proud and enhanced my self-esteem. I find myself interacting and communicating with them almost as a registered nurse. I can comprehend up to eighty percent of the terms used in a medical setup by the different professionals working at a hospital.
Another experience that I have received while serving as a nursing assistant is how to care for loved ones. I have served the patients in different ways all aimed at improving their safety by preventing injuries and illness. I have developed compassionate satisfaction for patients, and I feel that if anyone in my personal circle fell sick, I would be able to offer them with care, support and safety they may need to recover.
Further, working as a nursing assistant has taught me how to manage my personal health. I have seen nurses and doctors counsel patients on how to manage many conditions that are common to everyone, and I included, and I have always improved my health status by incorporating those pieces of advice. Management of stress, for example, is no longer a big deal to me.
