The evidence-based article discussed in this paper examines the treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes by using the closed-loop system. The closed-loop system proves to be effective in controlling blood glucose in patients with type 1 diabetes (Thabit et al., 2015). This innovative treatment involves the use of an artificial pancreas, which serves as a substitute pancreas for patients with type 1 diabetes. It can successfully detect the concentration of plasma glucose, calculate the amount of insulin needed, and administer the right amount of insulin (Thabit et al., 2015).

Thabit et al., in their article titled “Home use of an artificial beta cell in type 1 diabetes,” test the safety, practicability, and efficiency of an artificial pancreas in diabetes patients in the home settings. The study was conducted for twelve weeks, and it involved fifty-eight participants with type 1 diabetes. Throughout the study, the closed-loop system was compared with the sensor-augmented therapy. The adults used the closed-loop system during the day and night, whereas the children used the closed-loop exclusively during the night, throughout twelve weeks. Both the study and control group wore the CGMD (Continuous Glucose-Monitoring Device). By using the CGMD, glucose levels ranging from seventy to one-hundred and eighty milligrams per deciliter are considered the main endpoint for adults, whereas seventy to one-hundred and forty-five milligrams per deciliter are considered the main endpoint for children.
