Lazzi: The Comic Routines of the Commedia Dell'Arte is a useful text, but it is dry in a sense that it does not have anything funny that could make me laugh. For researchers or performers who are already aware of commedia dell'arte, it is indeed a good read, but for ordinary readers like me, it is a little bit boring since I do not have an idea of what Commedia is. However, the definition and explanation of the word “Lazzi” (p. 4) look quite interesting. It clarifies that the term can be applied to different situations.
