Most common breast complaints can range from breast lumps causing pain or tenderness, nipple discharge, changes in the appearance of the nipple, or the development of a mass or abscess. Though most of these problems may be benign, they still provoke anxiety in patients and consequently have to be rigorously assessed to rule out the presence of cancerous tissues.
Health care workers are expected to show the same level of speculation and skepticism even when patients present with minor complaints. Hence, a patient presenting with minor breast issues still need to be given a thorough breast examination and put through necessary screening procedures. For primary health care clinics, the staff is also guided to thoroughly examine a 25 to 40-year-old individual even when there are no significant complaints (Smania, 2017).
