Ethical Issues in Managing Data
Research requires the collection of data through various means to analyze the information to test a given hypothesis under study. Consequently, researchers play a critical role in the collection and storage of such data when collected from respondents. The collection of data poses several risks, especially to the respondents, since they provide information to the researcher. Therefore, a researcher must be knowledgeable enough to ensure that such data collected stays safe and used only for purposes of the research and protect it from unauthorized access.
Effect of research design on the quality, integrity, and objectivity of a research
The research design refers to the different techniques chosen by a researcher when conducting the study. Before undertaking a particular research, the researcher must choose an overall strategy in which they can integrate the various components of the study logically (Fain, 2017). Furthermore, such integration allows for the researcher to actively engage with the problem under research and come up with viable findings and recommendations. Therefore, the choice of a research design affects the entire study since it covers aspects of data collection, measurement and final analysis.
Scientific research requires the results and findings under the study to be reliable, especially in the field involving the health sector. The findings enable other researchers to refer to an individual’s work as a basis for making critical decisions involving further research or the application of such findings in real life (Rahi, 2017). Therefore, an improperly chosen research design may produce unreliable results that may jeopardize the quality of work in a particular area. For instance, the data must provide meaningful interpretations and insights into trends portrayed within it. The lack of such viable analysis ultimately affects the quality of data hence providing recommendations and solutions that may be inappropriate.
Apart from that, the chosen sampling and data collection methods also affect the results of the study hence improper selection may lead to flawed results. The sampling methods and data collection must align with the objectives of the research to ensure that the data collected is representative of the population under investigation (Silva, 2017). Furthermore, the other researchers should replicate the study and find identical results to ensure that the research was consistent with scientific guidelines and protocols. Therefore, a properly chosen research design ensures that the data collection and sample chosen can be trusted to provide accurate results that can be generalized to the population.
