Effective leadership is a central asset of any organization in achieving goals and objectives as well as improving the business environment. Mostly, organizations and specialists, strategize to improving this element by appropriate planning and self-assessment. Furthermore, developing healthy changes in the organization environment requires great and thoughtful responses-based skills (Gergesene et al., 2014).
The dynamics in the nursing as the largest workforce in the healthcare sector contributes a bigger part in management and policy formulation with the greatest focus being refining the quality caring skills, patient safety and continued staff development. According to Gergesene et al. (2014), Leadership is crucial expertise for nurses at all level of engagement, more so, with the increased importance of health care, it is necessary for players in this field to develop their governance skills at all levels of their career.
Self-reflection, knowledge and continuous assessment are the cornerstones of building a successful personal leadership plan, (Hartley& Benington, 2010). Throughout my life, I have been able to make viable decisions to various challenges that arise in day to day activities. The outcome of the choices is a clear indication that am a responsible person who can handle complex group situations. Far from professionalism, I remember when I had a click of friends where I dominated the groups’ directions; what to do, where to go, yes or no to a choice, and found that when am not available there was less going on between my friends. I was simply connecting my friends. My leadership skills emerged from here.
The concept of leadership has kept changing every day. Since my young age, I have admired walking to people’s low moments of life and rekindle the lost smile. Encouraged by mother Theresa word of wisdom “charity begins at home,” I volunteered in my neighborhood in through taking leadership positions. The interaction among the people in my neighborhoods greatly impacted on leadership focus. Professionally, I am just started as the nurse manager of the unit and my higher ambition is to climb the ladder and rise to become a director in the hospital.
Moreover, the pattern of growth as a result of the collaboration with people life has directly helped me evolve in nursing as well as leadership. Further, the engagement introduced me to power and servant leadership; this contributed to the realization on how most people were stuck on power management and neglected on the servant headship. A self-reflection in this know-how, helped me realize how deprived I was by confining myself only to official headship. It is through the shortcomings; I realized the importance of laying out a leadership plan to enable me to achieve my goals and objectives. To realize better quality service delivery, organization and practitioners need to formulate visions at every level, (Hartley& Benington, 2010).
