Even though performance in children is important, it should not come at the expense of their psychological and physical well-being. Coaches and personal trainers have a responsibility to ensure that children are winning without experiencing burnout and psychological harm. According to Teodorescu and Urzeala, (2020), children who engage in sports have better psychosocial health from an early age. If done properly, physical exercise and training can help children acquire a higher quality of life. To prevent burnout and psychological harm while still making children winners, trainers and coaches need to consider the growth and development of children while training them. As Teodorescu and Urzeala, (2020) reveal, motor development does not always match physical development and it is important to consider this while training children. In addition, it is important to ensure that training does not interfere, in any way, with the child’s growth. Trainers should encourage children to engage in multiple sports activities that are age-appropriate. Excessive training in a single sport during early specialization increases the chances of children's burnout (Teodorescu & Urzeala, 2020). Exposure to different sports can promote development and ensure that the child does not spend all their energy on one single sport which can cause them to experience physical and mental fatigue. Another way to ensure children do not experience burnout and psychological harm is to make sure they are having fun. According to Brody (2018), if children are not having occasional fun while training in sports, they are more likely to become frustrated and succumb to the pressure of competition.
